June 3rd Track Day, NHMS

June 10, 2008 4:05 pm

Well, the second track day of the year finally came and went. Seemed like it took an eternity has passed since my wife, father, and myself made the trip down to pick up the new to me R6. I’ve never been really sure it was a great idea to get a dedicated track bike to be honest. But after a winter of tinkering, fiberglassing, and painting with my father, it’s a no brainer.

And just in case there was any doubt, I present to you this track day.  Perfect weather, great riding, and I made all kinds of progress in my riding. I spent the day in the Red (beginer) group and was doing about as well as I had last year with the Triumph. But, after a bunch of laps behind an instructer a few things finally hit me. I wasn’t turning in with enough purpose, and I could just plain carry more speed into corners then I was.  Because of this, my once ornimental knee pucks have a whole new purpose in life!

Check out the new lid too! Had it delivered fresh off the FedEx truck after lunch time! Best helmet I’ve ever had on my head!

April 28th Track Day (Monsoon)

April 28, 2008 10:00 am

Well, after a winter of working on the R6 I finally get a chance to take her to the track. Mother nature had other plans for us poor track day geeks though, and poured water on us non-stop all day long. After you got a little confidence, you really could get the bike leaned over further then you ever thought. And some of the experts were even dragging knees with the use of rain tires. Carp, Park, and I camped out at the track Sunday night after Park raced all weekend and left the day wet, cold and a little pissed off at the weather.

The bike performed well until the end of the day, the suspension really needs some attention I think. Last session of the day the Yammi started sputtering and not running so hot. I limped her back to the pits and considered the day a success after surviving the steady downpour all day. Seems some water found it’s way into the gas tank. I’m going to have to explore that a bit more later.

Big thanks to MrJoelieC coming up and hanging out with us in the rain. Most of the riders didn’t stick it out, nevermind visitors! Park deserves some credit too. He stood in Turn 10 corner working for us all day as well.

Winter Work Continues

March 17, 2008 1:54 am

The 675 has made it’s way back from GMD for it’s suspension fun and is now having the 12k service done at the Triumph dealer. Already been out on it a few times when I’ve had the chance. Now that we’re into mid March, riding time should see a sharp increase. One can at least hope, right?

The R6 is coming along pretty well. I’ve got all the suspension back to stock heights (it was close as I got it, but I made the minor adjustments). Also, we’ve finally finished filling, patching, and overall repair of the body work and have actually sprayed some primer this afternoon. It’s pretty cool to see everything the same color now instead of the various fillers and other “product” we had spoodged all over the thing. Still some minor blemishes to fill and touch up on. Amazing what the primer shows you.

She’ll have color on her soon! First track day of the season is coming up quick. CaseyCarp and I will be on track with the help of JayPark, all should be well!

Oh yeah R6 colors have been purchased…Yellow and Black!

Winter Projects

January 22, 2008 4:19 pm

Well, here it is in 2008. A few short months we can actually ride again. As much as I love it here in this part of the country, it’s always about this time of year I have an inner debate on moving somewhere warm.

Work on the bikes is picking up. Th 675 is off for some suspension service, while the new to me track bike has already been slightly torn down. Springs both front and rear for my weight as well as an overall “look-see” to make sure she is ready for this years tack season. We’ve also started working on the race glass. Filling holes and blemishes. I suppose that means I’ll have to pick a color soon. Yamaha Team Blue, Triumph’s “yellow” like the 675, or something else?

Also, sounds like MJC and CaseyCarp will be at the first track day of the year with me. We’ll also have along Parker as the team driver and overall “ledge talker off-er” guy. I can’t wait to see those guys’ reaction when they get off the track for the first time!

09/29/07 “Local Run”

September 30, 2007 2:09 am

We started out today just wanting to link up some of our favorite roads into one good sized ride. Leaving around 7:30, we made our way out to western NH and made good work of the empty roads. Route 123, 119, 137 and more.

From there we worked our way up north hitting more of our favorite roads up to New London, NH. After a qucik trek across most of the stat we found ourselves yet again at the foot of the White Mountains. After a quick jaunt on 118, we had to stop in Franconia and decide where we should go next. We chose to hit route 18 and check out route 135, a road neither of us had tried. We were rewarded with some amazing views, and a great road. After looping back to the southern side of 116 we made our way back home. Great ride, can’t wait to hit some of those new (to us) roads again!

Winter is almost here, got to squeeze them in where you can.

Finally got the new version of the theme going. I’ll be trying backfill some of the old posts and pictures as well as be better about keeping this place updated. Thanks for checking it out!
